Patrick Stewart Wants In On Quentin Tarantino's R-Rated STAR TREK Movie
Last week the stunning news hit that Quentin Tarantino was developing a new Star Trek film with J.J. Abrams. Tarantino is looking to direct the film and one of the conditions he made was that the film would have to be rated R. Paramount Pictures and Abrams agreed to that term, and now things seem to be moving forward fast. The studio is in talks with The Revenant screenwriter, Mark L. Smith, to write the script and now one iconic Star Trek actor has come out to say that he wants to be a part of it! That actor is Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. While talking to THR, Stewart said:
"People are always saying to me, 'Will you be Jean-Luc Picard again?' And I cannot think that would be possible, but there are ways in which something like that might come about."
He then went on to say:
"But one of my dreams is to work with Tarantino. I admire his work so much, and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction. So, if he is going to direct something to do with Star Trek and there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again and doing that for Mr Tarantino, I would embrace it."
There's no doubt that the Star Trek fans would embrace it as well! Tarantino working with Patrick Stewart on an R-rated Star Trek film!? Holy shit! That would be incredible. With the crazy way this project is coming together, at this point... anything is possible! When talking about why he is a fan of Tarantino, he says:
"The one thing that characterizes all of his movies is that frame by frame, it always challenges, always demands your attention, always demands a very kind of open and generous response to what he does. I also love his sense of humor as a filmmaker. So yes, he would be my first choice."
That's one of the reasons why I enjoy the films of Tarantino! When previously talking about Star Trek, Tarantino did reveal that one of his favorite episodes was from The Next Generation. It was called "Yesterday's Enterprise" and it involves an Enterprise from the past appearing and screwing up the timeline:
"I think one of the best episodes of Star Trek ever written was for [Star Trek: The Next Generation]. I actually think that is not only one of the great space stories, but the way it dealt with the mythology of the whole thing — that actually could bare a two hour treatment."
Well, it would be pretty amazing to see Tarantino and Stewart work on a Star Trek movie together. Would you want to see this happen? Do you think there's a chance that it could?
