Paul Greengrass Lines Up High-Octane Thriller TEST DRIVE at 20th Century

If you’re a fan of intense, edge-of-your-seat filmmaking, this next project should definitely be on your radar. Paul Greengrass is gearing up for another adrenaline-fueled ride, as the acclaimed director is in talks to take the wheel on Test Drive for 20th Century.

Fresh off the strong reception of The Lost Bus, Greengrass isn’t slowing down. That film earned praise for both its direction and its lead performance from Matthew McConaughey. Now, Greengrass looks ready to channel that momentum straight into something new and explosive.

Test Drive first hit the scene as a spec script from writer Matt Venne, sparking a competitive bidding war when it landed in fall 2024. 20th Century ultimately secured the project, and once a draft started making the rounds internally, it quickly gained traction with studio execs.

Details on the story are being kept tightly under wraps, but the film is described as a two-hander action thriller. That alone is enough to raise some intrigue, especially with Greengrass stepping in. His track record with high-intensity storytelling speaks for itself, and this setup suggests something character-driven with plenty of tension baked in.

Producing duties are in the hands of Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, and Joanna Kaye, with Scott Aversano overseeing the project for the studio. The plan is to get things moving quickly, with hopes of launching production by the end of the year or early 2027.

Greengrass has built a reputation for crafting gripping, kinetic films that pull audiences right into the action. From his Oscar-nominated work on United 93 to redefining modern action with The Bourne franchise starring Matt Damon, he knows how to deliver tension in a way that feels immediate and real.

That’s what makes Test Drive such an exciting prospect. Returning to the action-thriller space with a fresh concept and a two-character focus could give Greengrass the perfect playground to do what he does best.
