Paul Walter Hauser Confirmed to Join Netflix’s Live-Action SCOOBY-DOO Series
Netflix’s upcoming live-action take on Scooby-Doo is coming together with the casting, and now it’s added another intriguing piece to the puzzle. Paul Walter Hauser has officially signed on as a series regular, bringing his unique energy to the mystery-filled world of Mystery Inc.
Hauser’s role is still being kept under wraps, which only makes his casting more fun to speculate about. Whether he’s playing a friend, foe, or something in between, his presence adds a layer of unpredictability to a show that already sounds like it’s leaning into a darker, character-driven story.
He joins a young cast that will bring the iconic gang to life, including Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.
The series, developed by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, is described as a modern reimagining that digs into the origin of Mystery Inc. Instead of jumping straight into a well-oiled mystery-solving team, this story goes back to the beginning and explores the case that brought them together in the first place.
Set during their final summer at camp, Shaggy and Daphne reconnect and find themselves wrapped up in a strange and unsettling mystery involving a lonely Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
That pup, of course, turns out to be Scooby-Doo. As the mystery deepens, they team up with Velma, a hyper-logical local, and Freddy, a mysterious new arrival who seems to have his own secrets. Together, they dive into a case that spirals into something far more intense than they expected.
The show is being produced by Warner Bros. Television, with a creative team that includes Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman. Toby Haynes is set to direct the first episode, which should give the series a strong visual start.
For fans of the franchise, this project marks a major milestone. Since its debut in 1969 from creators Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, Scooby-Doo has become a pop culture staple.
While we’ve seen live-action versions before, most notably the early 2000s films starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini, this will be the first time the story is explored in a serialized live-action format.
As for Hauser, he’s been on a serious roll. After earning major recognition for his role in Black Bird, which scored him both Emmy and Golden Globe wins, he’s continued to land high-profile projects.
His recent work includes roles in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, The Naked Gun, and Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Up next, he’ll appear alongside Mark Wahlberg in the comedy Balls Up, hitting Prime Video on April 15, and he’s also set to show up in a new Resident Evil reboot from Zach Cregger.
