PENNYWORTH Casts UK Pop Star Paloma Faith as the Main Villain

Some new information has surfaced regarding the villain for the Batman-inspired series based on the early life of Alfred Pennyworth. Deadline reports that British pop star Paloma Faith will be playing the lead villain in Pennyworth and the name of that villain is Bet Sykes. Although, the photo above makes her look like she could play Poison Ivy.

According to the report Sykes is a “cruel adversary who will test the courage of young Alfred Pennyworth and his new boss, Thomas Wayne, the future father of Bruce Wayne.”

The character is also described as a “spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain.” It was previously reported that she will be a leader of The Raven Society with the mysterious Lord Hardwood and her are some additional details on her role in the story:

“The Raven Society will find themselves in what sounds like a season long game of cat-and-mouse with our heroes after Sykes abducts a dancer by the name of Esme Whitaker. The heroes will battle Hardwood and the corrupt London police force in an effort to rescue Whitaker and will have to come to trust one another to do so."

Paloma also stars alongside Jack Bannon (Imitation Game) in the title role and Ben Aldridge (Our Girl) will take on the role of Thomas Wayne.

Pennyworth follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier in his 20’s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire, Thomas Wayne in 1960s London. Here’s a description of the title character that was provided:

Bannon’s Pennyworth is a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty; you’d never take him for an SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.

The show is being developed by executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (GothamThe MentalistRome) and executive producer and director Danny Cannon (GothamCSI series).

Pennyworth is planned as 10 one-hour episodes and shooting has started production at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in England.
