Petition to Get a Best Stunt Oscar Category Added to the Academy Awards
The Academy Awards are supposed to recognize and celebrate all of those that work in creating movies that entertain audiences, and for some reason, they have ignored the stuntmen and stuntwomen in the industry. It’s crazy to me that the academy still hasn’t added a Best Stunt Oscar category, these talented individuals deserve recognition!
John Wick franchise director, Chad Stahelski, was just talking about this, saying: "There's one for every other department but ours? That's a no-brainer to me. Truly, there are wives' tales and rumors and myths about why there's no category, that the Academy was mad at somebody about something. For all I know, that's all bullshit. We want to be recognized because we're one of the 11 main departments. We're in every f**king trailer. Most movies are sold on what we do."
Well, now a petition has been launched to help finally get the Academy to create a stunt category! Check out the petition and then sign the petition!
Mission Impossible. Star Wars. The Avengers. The Fast and the Furious. The Lord of the Rings. The Raid. The Matrix.
Mad Max. John Wick. Bond... James Bond.
These are just a handful of the films and franchises that have seen stunt performers put their talents and literal lives on display since the very beginnings of cinema for the benefit of the motion picture industry, thrilling audiences around the globe for generations. Helping Hollywood studios and production companies gross billions upon billions of dollars worldwide, stunt men and women have enriched the industry both creatively and monetarily while seeing little to no prestige or awards acknowledgement for their critical, essential, and industry changing work.
It's time we change that.
By signing this petition, you are agreeing that it's well past time for the award and category for Best Stunts be created by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and implemented beginning with the 2024 Academy Awards.
We propose that the nominee(s) for each award be the stunt coordinator(s) for the nominated films, and/or who the production of the eligible and nominated films sees fit.
Through so doing this will not only create a vibrant and exciting award that will not only help modernize the Oscars, but also create new audience buzz and enthusiasm, plus awareness for the awards themselves - and there ain't anybody that can complain about that!
