President Joe Biden Grew More Concerned About AI After Watching MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART ONE

As you may have heard, President Joe Biden recently signed an executive order establishing new standards and security measures regarding artificial intelligence. It turns out that his concern for AI gre after he watched Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

Deputy White House Chief of Staff Bruce Reed told the Associated Press the president was also “impressed and alarmed” after seeing “fake AI images of himself” and being introduced to “terrifying technology of voice cloning.”

Biden’s concern about AI then grew after watching Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One at Camp David. reed explained: “If he hadn’t already been concerned about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he saw plenty more to worry about.”

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sees Ethan Hunt and his team on a mission to take down a sentient and dangerous AI known as The Entity. It has the power to control the world and steer things in a dangerous direction.

According to the report: “Biden was profoundly curious about the technology in the months of meetings that led up to drafting the order.” He met with scientists who explained the potential upside of AI, as well as its dangers.

There have been a ton of movies made over the years about the dangers of A.I. like the Terminator movies, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, M3GAN, and even the Child’s Play remake. There are more, but I guess Mission: Impossible made it feel real for him.

As far as the executive order goes, it will be carried out in the next 90 to 365 days, and the White House says it “directs the most sweeping actions ever taken to protect Americans from the potential risks of AI systems.” It includes developing standards, tools and tests to ensure safety in AI systems; and requiring AI developers to share their safety test results and other critical information with the U.S. government. It includes guidance for “content authentication and watermarking to clearly label AI-generated content,” to protect people from AI-driven fraud.
