Producer Simon Kinberg Says GAMBIT Will Be A Sexy Heist Film

20th Century Fox's Gambit solo film has been struggling to find a director for months, and now it appears that Edge of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman will be the person who brings Channing Tatum's iteration of the card-throwing Cajun to the big screen. Producer Simon Kinberg, who is said to be heavily involved in the making of this movie, recently spoke with Collider about the tones of the various X-Men universe movies Fox is distributing, and he let slip a couple of tiny details about the Gambit movie:

“I mean Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies,” says Kinberg. “The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.”

A sexy thriller/heist movie, eh? That's not too surprising, considering Remy LeBeau's background in the underworld of thieves. I wonder what he'll be stealing? Reading up a little on Gambit's background, I realized that Mr. Sinister has a role in making him the mutant we know from the comics, and that reminded me that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston recently said he wanted to play Mr. Sinister in a superhero movie. If Kinberg and his team do end up including that character in this script, I certainly hope they at least have a conversation about it with Cranston. That'd be cool to see him portray that character for the first time in live-action. Gambit was supposed to arrive in theaters on October 7th, 2016, but since the film won't even start shooting until this coming spring, that's no longer going to happen. Expect to see the movie blast into theaters sometime in 2017 instead.
