Quentin Tarantino Now Says STAR TREK Might Be the Last Film He Directs
Quentin Tarantino sure does like to tease his retirement from filmmaking. A couple weeks ago he teased that Once Upon and Time in Hollywood could be his last film. Well, now he’s saying that the R-rated Star Trek film he’s been developing might be his last film.
During an interview with CinemaBlend, the director said, “If I was going to do Star Trek, I should commit to it. It's my last movie. There should be nothing left-handed about it.” The director then backtracked a little bit and added, “I don't know if I'm going to do that, but that might happen.”
Tarantino has been saying for years that he does not want to direct more than 10 movies in his career. He wants to retire after that tenth film, whatever it will be. Maybe it will be Star Trek, maybe it’ll be another movie. Who knows, maybe Tarantino won’t retire at all! It just seems like the guy enjoys making movies too much to really ever retire. He’s even already trying to throw in a loophole for his retirement plans:
“I guess I do have a loophole, [if] the idea was to throw a loophole into it. Which would be [to go], ‘Uhhh, I guess Star Trek doesn't count. I can do Star Trek … but naturally I would end on an original.’” Tarantino then added: “But the idea of doing 10 isn't to come up with a loophole.”
Tarantino’s ninth movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is set to be released on July 26th. Do you think Tarantino will ever truly retire from filmmaking?
