REACHER Actor Thinks Alan Ritchson Would Be the Best Batman We’ve Ever Had
Alan Ritchson has made it very clear that he wants to be Batman, and according to Reacher co-star Roberto Montesinos, he should be. Not just because he wants it, but because he deserves it.
Montesinos, who plays DEA Agent Guillermo Villanueva on the hit Prime Video series, recently shared his thoughts in an interview with Collider, laying out why Ritchson would absolutely own the role of the Dark Knight.
“What would he bring to that role? First of all, his work ethic, his research, his command of a character,” Montesinos explained. He went on to compare Ritchson’s nuanced performance as Jack Reacher to the kind of depth Batman demands.
“For example, in Lee Child's books, when you're reading the book? Reacher walks into a room, and there are three pages of thought; everything that he's clocking. How do you do that without those words? He does it with his face, with his eyes. And he said to me once, 'Every movement of your eye indicates to the audience a new thought.’”
That same intensity, Montesinos argues, is exactly what makes Ritchson a perfect fit for the Caped Crusader.
“So, he would kill Batman. Why did Tom Cruise pick Reacher? Because he was so well-written and so complex in stillness. Batman's the same kind of thing. He's very stoic; he's got a mask. I think he would be the best Batman we've ever had. We've had some good ones, but I think he would be the best Batman we've ever had.”
Montesinos isn’t wrong. Ritchson’s performance as Reacher is loaded with that quiet calculation that defines Bruce Wayne. But beyond the skill and talent, the man really wants to be Batman. He’s been campaigning for the role for a while now, and he’s not shy about it.
Ritchson previously said: "Would I play Batman? Yes. Would I pay handsomely to be Batman? You wouldn't even have to pay me to be Batman. I would don the suit. 'Gotham is mine.' Look at that. I don't even have to practice, it just comes out naturally.”
The passion is real, and the vibe fits. While Robert Pattinson is currently wearing the cowl in Matt Reeves’ The Batman films, those fall under DC’s Elseworlds banner, which are separate from the main DCU continuity being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
So, if there's room in the DCU for a new Batman, Ritchson's name should absolutely be in the mix. He’s got the presence and the talent. Now it’s just up to Gunn to decide if Gotham will ever see him in the cape and cowl.
