READY OR NOT: HERE I COME Star Kevin Durand Teases His "Polar Opposite" Role in Film
If you think you know what’s coming in Ready or Not: Here I Come, actor Kevin Durand is here to tell you otherwise. During an interview with ComicBook promoting the upcoming slasher Clown in a Cornfield, Durand dropped a few cryptic but exciting teases about the long-awaited sequel to 2019’s Ready or Not.
“Honestly, with those guys, when we finished Abigail, Matt and Tyler and I, we decided we would do a hundred movies together,” Durand said of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence.
“Tyler brought it up. He’s like, ‘We want you to do the next hundred movies.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, okay, let’s do a hundred. And if it goes really well, maybe we could do 150.’ We just love working together. I love the tone that they set. They’re incredibly kind and thoughtful and collaborative.”
That camaraderie is fueling anticipation for Ready or Not: Here I Come, which is coming from Searchlight Pictures. The sequel brings back Samara Weaving’s Grace, who barely survived the carnage of the Le Domas family's deadly ritual in the first film.
Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, the writers of the original, are once again writing the script, keeping the tone and spirit of the original firmly intact.
But when it comes to what kind of character Durand is playing this time around, he’s staying tight-lipped… mostly.
“I can’t really tell you what I’m playing in it because that would just give up a bunch, but it’s really fun,” he hinted. “And it’s polar opposite to what I did with them last time.”
That’s a pretty intriguing comment considering Durand’s last Radio Silence role was a brute mob enforcer in Abigail who didn’t have the sharpest survival instincts. If we’re looking at a “polar opposite,” maybe this time we’re getting brains over brawn or possibly someone with a hidden agenda?
The cast for Here I Come is stacked and signals a bigger, more ambitious sequel. Kathryn Newton (Abigail and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) and Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings, Yellowjackets) are onboard, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy. Then there’s David Cronenberg.
In the meantime, you can catch Durand in Clown in a Cornfield, which hits theaters May 9. In it, a teenage girl and her father move to the struggling town of Kettle Springs, only to find themselves caught in the middle of a bloody uprising—led by a killer clown named Frendo. It's got small-town dread, social decay, and a whole lot of blood.
There’s still no release date for Ready or Not: Here I Come, but with this cast, this creative team, and this kind of buzz, it sounds like fans should buckle up for something wild—and unexpected.
