Retro Trailer For Tom Cruise and Ridley Scott's Fantasy Film LEGEND
This week’s retro trailer is for director Ridley Scott’s 1985 fantasy epic Legend. I remember being completely mesmerized when I watched this movie as a kid. It was my real introduction to the fantasy genre, and I loved it.
The film tells the story of a young hero named Jack, played by Tom Cruise, who embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Lili, portrayed by Mia Sara, from the clutches of the malevolent Lord of Darkness, played by Tim Curry. Set in a mythical world filled with enchanting creatures and magical beings, the story follows Jack as he battles goblins, and other fantastical creatures in his pursuit of love and light.
Legend is a visually stunning and imaginative movie with breathtaking landscapes and elaborate sets, which created a rich and immersive fantasy world. Then there’s Curry's iconic performance as Darkness, with his incredible makeup and prosthetics.
Despite its visually captivating elements and strong performances, Legend received mixed reviews upon its release. While some critics praised its artistic ambition others criticized its convoluted plot and uneven pacing. I liked it, though, and a lot of other people liked it as well. I especially enjoyed the blend of fantasy and dark fairy tale elements.
