Look, Mission: Impossible is one of my favorite film franchises, and McQuarrie and Tom Cruise have perfected it. In my opinion, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is a perfect film in the franchise. The director tells a great story that skillfully weaves a complex story and a web of intrigue. The twists and turns in the story play out with such precision and finesse that it's hard to predict what’s coming and it all leads to an incredibly intense ending that will leave audiences in a sweat of panic and leave you wanting more!
Tom Cruise, the master of death-defying stunts, once again raises the bar for action sequences in the franchise. It's awe-inspiring to watch Cruise put his freakin’ life on the line to entertain audiences! In this movie, he rides a motorcycle off a cliff and into a base jump; he stunt drives in one of the best car chase scenes ever put on film; he gets into a fight on top of a real moving train; and he speedflies, which is one of the most dangerous sports in the world. The guy knows how to bring the entertainment, and his commitment to delivering these jaw-dropping stunts is unmatched, and it's an absolute thrill to witness his dedication on the big screen.
While the stunts and the action in the film are top-notch, the story is also incredibly strong. Like Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is the perfect example of how to make an awesome film that everyone will love! More studios need to be following the example that Cruise and McQuarrie have set when it comes to building on their big franchises. These guys make all the smart and right decisions, and I love that they do things the hard way!
This team of talent doesn’t take any shortcuts. They have a solid script in place, they do as much as they can practically with the action, they take the time to do it right and with precision, and in the end it shows! You can see the high quality and the care that went into making the film! This is something that is lacking in Hollywood right now. So, it’s great to see that there are filmmakers out there like this that put care into their projects and won’t put out anything substandard.
