RIVERDALE Star Camila Mendes Set To Play Teela in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Movie
Camila Mendes (Riverdale) is set to play Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action film adaptation of Masters of the Universe.
Mendes joins Nicholas Galitzine, who will be talking on the role of He-Man. Teela, a warrior who as Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard, is responsible for protecting the royal family, especially Prince Adam aka He-Man.
With this casting, it feels like we are going to be getting a CW version of Masters of the Universe. I really want to be excited about this movie, especially with Travis Knight directing, but I’m not sold on the casting.
Knight, who previously directed films such as Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, is directing from a script written by Chris Butler. David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee worked on the initial draft.
In Masters of the Universe, “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia.
“After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
I would love nothing more than for Knight to make an epic He-Man movie, but the story and the casting is worrying me. I hope Knight proves me wrong.
Masters of the Universe is being produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films for release exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.
