Rob Liefeld Says It's Time For Kevin Feige to Step Down as CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Underperforms
Captain America: Brave New World is stumbling at the box office in it’s second weekend, and Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has made it clear that he thinks it’s time for Kevin Feige to step down.
Marvel Studios' latest film started strong with its extended Presidents Day weekend opening, but by its second weekend, the numbers took a hit. A 68% drop left it with just $28.3 million domestically.
While some analysts expected an even steeper decline, it’s still not a great look for Marvel Studios, which once dominated the industry.
At this point, Brave New World has pulled in $289.4 million worldwide. That might seem solid, but with a reported production budget of $180 million before factoring in marketing and extensive reshoots, which could push costs closer to $300 million, it’s not exactly a slam dunk. Whether it turns a profit or not, this is nowhere near the box office heights Marvel used to reach.
Liefeld is not happy with Marvel and seems to be looking for any reason to slap the studio in the face. He’s never been shy about voicing his opinions, and he took to social media over the weekend calling for Feige to get “off the mound.”
He recently cut ties with the company, claiming he was snubbed from Deadpool & Wolverine’s after-party and left out of the film’s opening credits. Those personal gripes aside, he’s not alone in questioning whether Feige is still the right person to lead Marvel Studios.
Marvel’s recent struggles, from box office underperformers to mixed audience reception, have fueled ongoing debates about whether the golden era of the MCU is over.
Liefeld’s stance might be personal, but plenty of fans and industry voices seem to echoing the sentiment, and belives that it’s time for a fresh perspective.
Feige has been the architect of the MCU since Iron Man, but with recent misfires and declining audience enthusiasm, the question remain… can he turn it around?
