With every new actor that plays Batman comes a new voice for the character. I’m sure a lot of fans have been wondering what Robert Pattinson will sound like as the Dark Knight in director Matt ReevesThe Batman. Well, in a recent interview, the actor teased that the voice he’ll use for the character was inspired by his The Lighthouse co-star Willem Dafoe.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Pattinson reveals that Willem Dafoe's performance in The Lighthouse might actually be the inspiration for him, saying:

"Willem's voice in this is quite inspiring for it to be honest. It is pretty similar to the voice I'm gonna do... I think Batman has a sort of pirate-y kind of voice..."

Of course, this is where the angry fans jump in to say that "Batman is not a pirate!" I’ll just wait to actually hear the voice for myself before I start judging it. I just don’t think that Reeves and Pattinson are going to screw this up. I think they’re going to deliver a great and badass Batman movie and Batman isn’t going to be running around saying, “G'yaaaarrrrrrr, I’m the Batman aaarrrrr.”

But, there’s no doubt he’ll have a gravely and gritty voice of sorts. We’ll just have to see what that ends up being. While talking to BBC about his approach to playing Batman, he says he wants it to be frightening:

“I wanted to do something on a big stage, and so I ended up doing Chris Nolan’s movie, which I was really, really happy about at the beginning of this year. And then Batman was kind of a surprise to me. Now that I’m starting to get into it, I don’t want to approach it as kind of a big studio thing where all you’re really doing is thinking about your trailer. I want to approach it in exactly the same way, I want it to be frightening, I want it to be something you lose yourself in.”

Pattinson also gushed over Zoë Kravitz being cast in the role of Catwoman, telling ET:

"Yes! Zoe's great and I've known her for years and years and years. I mean, I've been friends with her for like ten years and she's brilliant."

I’m sure Kravitz will make a great Catwoman. I just can’t wait to see how these characters end up being brought to life for the movie. When previously talking about how he sees the character Batman, Pattinson said:

"Batman's not a hero, though. He's a complicated character. I don't think I could ever play a real hero — there's always got to be something a little bit wrong. I think it's because one of my eyes is smaller than the other one."

The Batman will be a noir style film that will lean into Batman as a detective. It’s scheduled to hit theaters June 25th, 2021.
