Robert Pattinson Says Filming DUNE: PART THREE Was an “Absolutely Incredible” Experience

Robert Pattinson is officially stepping into the sands of Arrakis, and even though he’s keeping details about his character locked down, he can’t stop talking about how wild the experience was filming Dune: Part Three.

The film marks the final chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi trilogy, and for Pattinson, it sounds like the shoot was something far beyond a typical movie set.

Pattinson’s role hasn’t been revealed yet, though rumors point to him playing Scytale, the story’s villain. While he stayed quiet on that front, he opened up to GQ about just how rare the experience felt.

“You’ll never experience these things in any other profession,” Pattinson said to GQ. “I mean, literally, I was experiencing things which hardly anybody in history has or will ever experience, and it’s just absolutely incredible.”

Part of that experience included working alongside Zendaya, who returns as Chani. The two have crossed paths before on The Odyssey and The Drama, but Dune brought a whole different energy. Pattinson described the moment it really hit him that he was standing inside Villeneuve’s world.

“Being out in the desert shooting Dune, it’s weird,” Pattinson recalled. “I remember shooting a scene with Zendaya, the first scene we shot together out in the desert, I’m like, ‘Oh! We’re, like, in Dune!’

“And she’s like, ‘Yeah . . . we’re doing a Dune movie.’ But it really was like, ‘It really feels like you’re in a Dune movie.’ It was really, really fun.”

The film jumps the story forward 15 to 20 years, with Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides. The cast also includes Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica.

Villeneuve directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts, adapting Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert. If Pattinson’s reaction is any indication, this final chapter is leaning hard into the scale and spectacle fans expect.

Dune: Part Three is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
