Rosario Dawson Reportedly Returning to the MCU in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be a much more grounded, street-level chapter for Peter Parker, and a new rumor suggests it’s pulling another character from Marvel’s Netflix-era roots.
It was recently reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring at least one character from Marvel Television’s Netflix series into the mix. That’s something that doesn’t seem too surprising considering Jon Bernthal is set to appear in the next Spider-Man film as The Piunisher. Now we may know who else might be joining Peter Parker’s world.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Rosario Dawson is expected to reprise her role as Claire Temple, better known to fans as the MCU’s Night Nurse.
Dawson first appeared as Claire in Daredevil Season 1, where she famously patched up Matt Murdock after his brutal encounters as Hell’s Kitchen’s masked vigilante. From there, the character became the connective tissue of the entire Netflix lineup, popping up across Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
Claire’s story last left her in a complicated place. After moving in with Luke Cage following The Defenders, the relationship fell apart as Luke began drifting toward a darker path as Harlem’s protector and eventual crime boss.
With Spider-Man operating at street level, it isn’t hard to imagine how Claire fits into the story. A battered Peter Parker needing off-the-books medical help could easily be dropped at her door, particularly if Frank Castle happens to be involved.
The idea of The Punisher dragging an injured Spider-Man to the Night Nurse feels very on-brand for this corner of the MCU.
Dawson herself has been enthusiastic about returning. Back in 2022, she said, “Yeah, I’d be super curious, but I’m just so stoked for everybody, though. It’s been a long time coming.
“I was really excited to know that all of our shows are actually part of the MCU now, with Charlie [Cox] and Vincent [D’Onofrio] coming over into these different projects now.”
She added: “So, yeah, 18 episodes [of Daredevil: Born Again]? I’m there! Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, they know where I am.”
While fans may be disappointed that Charlie Cox still hasn’t been confirmed for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the door doesn’t feel completely closed.
Whatever happens in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 appears to rule him out for now, but Marvel Studios is well aware of how badly audiences want to see Daredevil and Spidey share the screen. A future team-up is a strong possibility.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The script comes from returning Spider-Man writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, joined by an impressive ensemble that also includes Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Florence Pugh is also expected to return as Yelena Belova following her appearance in Thunderbolts.
It will be nice to see Claire Temple step back into the MCU if this is truel Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
