Rumor Claims Marvel's THOR 5 Could Become a HERCULES Movie With Chris Hemsworth's Thor Taking a Back Seat

Marvel Studios might be getting ready to shake up the future of the Thor franchise in a pretty unexpected way. A new rumor claims the next standalone adventure starring Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder may not actually be Thor 5 at all.

Instead, the project could reportedly evolve into a movie centered on Hercules. It's an interesting idea, especially after the way Hercules was introduced in the post-credits scene of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Fans have been waiting to see what Marvel planned to do with the character, and if this latest rumor turns out to be true, it sounds like the studio could finally be ready to pay that tease off in a much bigger way.

The latest claim comes from social media scooper James Mack, who says Marvel Studios is exploring a version of the project that shifts the spotlight away from Thor and puts Hercules front and center. According to the report, Hemsworth would still have a significant presence in the film, but Hercules would become the primary protagonist.

The rumor also claims Marvel is looking to expand the mythological side of the MCU even further by introducing Ares and Angela alongside Hercules. Of course, it's important to remember that none of this has been confirmed by Marvel Studios, so it's firmly in rumor territory for now.

If Marvel is considering this direction, it could be a smart way to keep Thor involved while opening the door for a new generation of god-like heroes.

Hercules and Thor sharing the screen has plenty of potential, especially if Marvel leans into the rivalry and larger-than-life personalities that have made their comic book encounters so much fun over the years.

The rumor also arrives as Hemsworth recently spoke about his own Marvel future during an interview with the BBC. When asked what comes next for Thor, he admitted things are still very much up in the air. "I don't know. We'll see where this one goes,"

Hemsworth also explained that Marvel is still figuring out the long-term plans for several of its biggest heroes. "We are unpacking that as we speak, and figuring out where each of these characters goes.

“I'm just thankful for being involved with this one at Marvel, back together with a lot of the old cast, and then the new cast. We'll see what happens,"

At the moment, previous reports have suggested that Thor 5 wouldn't arrive until sometime in 2028 or 2029. That timeline lines up with Marvel Studios' current slate, with Thor expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday later this year before returning in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. A standalone movie would likely come after those events.

Whether the project ultimately carries the Thor 5 title or transforms into a Hercules movie, it certainly sounds like Marvel may be looking for a fresh way to continue Thor's story.

If this rumor turns out to be true, fans could end up getting something very different from what they expected, while still keeping Hemsworth's beloved hero in the middle of the action.
