Marvel Studios Reportedly Developing THOR 5 Without Taika Waititi
We all knew that Marvel Studios was going to eventually going to make a fifth Thor movie. After all, the end of Thor: Love and Thunder featured the “Thor Will Return” tag. Well, Marvel movie scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Thor 5 is officially in development, but Taika Waititi will not return to direct.
After how Thor: Love and Thunder turned out, I’m not surprised by this report. Wiatiti just went a little too overboard on the silliness of the movie and it didn’t really work. So, Marvel is said to be actively looking for a new director to take on the project. It’ll be interesting to see who that ends up being, but we probably won’t know for a long time.
Waititi drastically reinvented Thor with a vibrant and heavily comedic tone. It worked great with Thor: Ragnarok! There was a great balance between the drama and comedy of the story, but with Love and Thunder, Waititi lost his mojo. It just didn’t work. Sure, some fans enjoyed it, but it really missed the mark and it should’ve been a much better film.
Waititi recently addressed the complaints about Thor: Love and Thunder's wacky tone, saying: "Some audiences really loved the humor part of it. Some audiences really wanted it to be just like the comics. But, you know, I always say, if you want it to be exactly like the comics read the comic. You've got to change things here and there to make it a film."
Thor: Love and Thunder set the stage for the God of Thunder to clash with Hercules, which is a story that will be a lot of fun to explore and play with! Thor also has a sidekick now with Gorr’s daughter fighting by his side.
Who would you like to see come in to direct Thor 5?
