Rumored Details On BLADE's Scrapped Supernatural Story and She-Hulk's AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Status

Marvel Studios’ long and frustrating road with Blade continues to be one of the MCU’s biggest question marks, and a new rumor sheds some light on just how ambitious the studio’s original plan was. At the same time, there’s a potentially major update on where She-Hulk stands when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday.

Back in 2019, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con when he officially welcomed Mahershala Ali to the MCU and announced a new Blade movie. It was positioned as a huge moment for the franchise, one that capped off Marvel’s panel and promised to bring the Daywalker back to the big screen.

The film was initially dated for November 3, 2023, before being pushed to September 6, 2024, then February 14, 2025, and later November 7, 2025. Eventually, it was pulled from Marvel Studios’ release calendar altogether and sent back into redevelopment. Now, it said to be dead.

Along the way, the project cycled through a number of creative teams. Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange were both attached to direct at different points, while writers Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, Michael Green, and Eric Pearson all took swings at the script.

Despite the constant resets, Ali and Mia Goth remain attached to star. Ali has technically already entered the MCU thanks to a voice cameo in Eternals, where Blade warned Dane Whitman about the dangers of the Ebony Blade.

Now, Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus has shared what he’s heard about Marvel’s scrapped supernatural direction for the movie, and it sounds like it was designed to do some serious world-building.

Taking to X, Perez explained, "Regarding the plot for the supernatural storyline, the whole point of 'Blade' is to tell the story of Blade and the history behind Ebony Blade, so a title with two meanings."

He went on to add, "And it would have provided some deep lore regarding the supernatural nature of the MCU, vampires, Lilith, the Underworld and more, leading into the Midnight Sons movie."

That approach lines up with earlier reports about Marvel experimenting with different eras and concepts, including a version set in the 1920s and another that would have prominently featured Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman.

All of those ideas were ultimately shelved, and whether elements of them survive in the next iteration of Blade is very much up in the air. At this point, even the movie’s future itself is firmly in the TBD category.

Perez also dropped an update saying that She-Hulk currently isn’t part of Avengers: Doomsday. That news follows controversy surrounding Tatiana Maslany, who previously urged fans on Instagram to cancel Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN subscriptions in response to Disney’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel.

Subsequent reports have claimed the actress no longer wants to work with Disney, which would obviously complicate Marvel’s plans. But, that could always just recast the role. It’s not like they haven’t done that before.

Perez does note there’s still a window for She-Hulk to show up later, saying she could "appear in Secret Wars or appear in Doomsday once the reshoots are underway, which are expected to add some characters unable to appear in principal photography."

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law landed with a mixed reaction, but the character of Jennifer Walters seemed poised to become a recurring presence in the MCU. Unless Marvel opts for a recast, that trajectory now seems far less certain, even with She-Hulk previously appearing in leaked concept art for the upcoming Avengers movies. Marvel has swapped out a Hulk before, after all, with Mark Ruffalo taking over the role from Ed Norton in 2012.

For now, the MCU marches on. Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, while Avengers: Secret Wars is set for December 17, 2027.
