Rumored Details on Nicolas Cage's Version of Spider-Man in SPIDER-NOIR Revealed
It’s pretty cool that Nicolas Cage is going to be playing a live-action version of Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming Sony/Marvel series Spider-Noir. I’m excited to see his take on this character.
Some new information has surfaced regarding the version of Spider-Man he will play that might interest some of you because fans assumed that he is playing a variant of Peter Parker, but that might not be the case.
The original logline for the series says it will follow an "aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”
It doesn’t name who the private investigator will be, but according to Daniel Richtman and a new logline he shared for the series, Spider-Noir will actually be Ben Reilly.
The new logline reads: "Amazon Prime is set to bring a fresh twist to the Spider-Man saga with their upcoming show. Breaking from tradition, this series will feature Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, rather than the iconic Peter Parker."
In the comics, Reilly was a clone of Parker who went on to take up the mantle of Scarlet Spider. It’s a different and unexpected take on the Spider-Noir character, and we don’t know if any of this origin of Reilly will remain, but given the series is set in the 30s, I’m sure that Cage's character will be Ben Reilly in name only.
Brendan Gleeson (Mr. Mercedes) was recently confirmed to play the villain in the series.
Spider-Noir is being developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with the Into the Spider-Verse team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all of whom will also executive produce.
Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes.
