Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Reunite for Disney+ Sailing Docuseries Following DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

Fans who loved seeing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman share the screen in Deadpool & Wolverine are about to get another collaboration from the duo, though this time the action is moving from superhero chaos to the high-speed world of competitive sailing.

Reynolds continues to expand his growing list of ventures beyond Hollywood. Between acting, producing, and helping transform Wrexham AFC into a global sensation, the star has now set his sights on SailGP.

Alongside Jackman, Reynolds co-owns the BONDS Flying Roos SailGP team, and that partnership is becoming the focus of a new Disney+ docuseries.

The untitled series will follow the Australian sailing team as they compete across the globe against some of the best sailors in the sport. Led by driver and CEO Tom Slingsby, one of the most accomplished sailors in history, the Flying Roos compete in SailGP's intense stadium-style racing championship.

The competition features identical 50-foot catamarans racing close to shore at speeds reaching up to 100 km/h, making for a fast-paced and highly visual spectacle.

The series will also document the experience of onboarding the team's celebrity owners as the season unfolds, adding another layer of entertainment to the competition.

Jackman and Reynolds shared a statement about the project, bringing the same playful energy fans have come to expect from them:

“This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP.”

Reynolds already has plenty of experience turning sports stories into compelling television. FX's Welcome to Wrexham has spent five seasons chronicling the journey of Wrexham AFC, the Welsh soccer club he co-owns.

That connection carries over to this new project, as Wrexham co-chairman and Welcome to Wrexham executive producer Rob Mac will serve as an executive producer on the sailing series through his More Better Productions banner.

The Disney+ original is being produced by Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions in partnership with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos team. Brent Hodge will direct and serve as showrunner.

While Welcome to Wrexham helped introduce millions of viewers to the world of lower-league football, this new series looks ready to do something similar for SailGP. With elite competition, globe-trotting races, and Reynolds and Jackman involved, Disney+ may have another sports docuseries that draws in viewers who never expected to care about the sport at its center.

The untitled sailing docuseries will stream exclusively on Disney+ internationally and on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States.
