Sadie Sink’s SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Role Reportedly Comes With a Big MCU Twist

The mystery surrounding Sadie Sink and her role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day just got a whole lot more interesting. Marvel and Sony still haven’t revealed who the Stranger Things star is actually playing, but a new rumor is throwing even more fuel onto the fan theory fire.

According to insider My Time To Shine Hello, Sink’s character reportedly comes with a “major twist” attached to it. The scooper also claimed that Sadie “is the BEST part of Spider-Man Brand New Day” based on early test screenings.

As always with Marvel rumors, nothing has been officially confirmed, so fans should keep expectations in check for now. Still, the speculation machine is running wild, especially because this latest claim lines up with one of the biggest theories floating around the movie.

A lot of fans are convinced Sink is secretly playing Jean Grey. That theory first picked up steam back in March when industry insider Jeff Sneider said, “It’s true. Wow, it’s true. I hear that she is, in fact, playing Jean Grey.”

Trade publication Deadline also added fuel to the rumors when it reported that “the prevailing theory is she’ll be introduced as X-Men character Jean Grey.”

If that ends up being true, it would be a massive moment for the MCU. Jean Grey is one of Marvel’s most iconic X-Men characters, but she still hasn’t appeared anywhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios has been slowly teasing mutants for years now, so dropping Jean Grey into a Spider-Man movie would definitely shake things up in a cool and interesting way.

It also raises a ton of questions about what kind of story Brand New Day is actually telling. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker ended Spider-Man: No Way Home completely isolated, with the world forgetting who he was. Bringing mutants into that next chapter could open the door to an entirely new era of MCU storytelling.

Zendaya is returning as MJ alongside Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Jacob Batalon, Luke Gross, and Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III.

Sink has also been having a pretty great run lately. She recently returned as Max Mayfield in the final season of Stranger Things on Netflix, and previously appeared in the musical drama O’Dessa and the thriller A Sacrifice.

Whether Sink is actually playing Jean Grey or Marvel has another surprise hiding up its sleeve, one thing is clear: fans are already obsessed with figuring out her place in the story.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
