SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Test Screening Reactions Are Calling It the Best Spider-Man Movie Ever
Marvel and Sony may have something seriously special on their hands with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The upcoming wall-crawler adventure from director Destin Daniel Cretton is still over a year away from hitting theaters, but early reactions from recent test screenings are already making a lot of noise online.
Cretton recently confirmed that test screenings for the film had taken place and shared that he was very happy with how audiences responded. He didn’t spill any story details, but word from a couple of industry insiders paints a pretty exciting picture.
According to John Campea, the reactions coming out of the screenings were “beyond excellent” and apparently even stronger than the studio expected.
Insider MTTSH also reported that the response was “overwhelmingly positive,” but then followed that up with an even bigger claim. The scooper says people leaving the screenings are calling Brand New Day “the greatest Spider-Man movie” ever made.
That’s obviously a massive statement, especially considering how loved films like Spider-Man 2, Into the Spider-Verse, and Spider-Man: No Way Home are among fans.
At the same time, it’s important to remember these screenings involve a relatively small group of viewers, and reactions like this can sometimes get a little carried away. Still, test screening reports are often mixed, so hearing this level of enthusiasm this early is definitely interesting.
Following the huge success of No Way Home, this next chapter picks up four years later with Peter Parker completely alone after wiping himself from the memories of everyone he loves.
The world no longer knows who he is, and Peter has thrown himself fully into being Spider-Man full-time while trying to survive life on his own in New York City.
But things apparently get much worse for him. As Peter struggles under the growing pressure of his responsibilities, he experiences a mysterious physical transformation that threatens his very existence.
At the same time, a dangerous crime wave begins spreading across New York, leading him into conflict with what’s being described as one of the deadliest threats he’s ever faced.
The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the screenplay comes from longtime Spider-Man writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026, and I can’t wait to see it!
