SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 Trailer Goes Full John Wick With Killer New Assassins
Taro Sakamoto wanted the family-man life. Unfortunately, the assassin world has other plans.
The new trailer for Sakamoto Days Season 2 brings Sakamoto back into the crosshairs, introducing dangerous new players, old connections, and some seriously slick combat.
The hit anime returns to Netflix in January 2027, and judging by this footage, retirement isn't getting any easier for our favorite former assassin.
Three new characters make their debut in the trailer, starting with Etsuko Satoda, Sakamoto's former teacher. Misa Watanabe voices Satoda, an experienced figure from the assassin world whose history with her former student could complicate an already dangerous situation.
Then there's Amane Yotsumura, voiced by Kikunosuke Toya. Amane is a conflicted student dealing with divided loyalties, which should make him an interesting wildcard as the story unfolds.
The third newcomer is Satoru Yotsumura, voiced by Shinshu Fujii. His shared surname with Amane isn't the only intriguing thing about him. Satoru has connections to Sakamoto's past, although the trailer keeps the specifics under wraps for now.
Of course, Sakamoto Days wouldn't be nearly as much fun without watching Sakamoto turn everyday environments into playgrounds for absurdly efficient violence. The Season 2 trailer leans into that strength, with Sakamoto and Shin tearing through enemies in action scenes that carry some serious John Wick energy.
Hand-to-hand combat slides naturally into gunplay and other weapon work, with Sakamoto and Shin operating like guys who really shouldn't be messed with.
The anime still makes room for Sakamoto's home life, though, which remains an important part of why all this fighting matters. He's survived the assassin business and built a family. Now he has to keep that old world from destroying what he has.
Season 2 sends Sakamoto and Shin into the JCC, Japan's assassin training institution, where they'll attempt to gather intelligence on X, otherwise known as Slur. The mysterious figure has been targeting assassins throughout Japan while manipulating events from the shadows.
Elsewhere, ORDER members Nagumo, Shishiba, and Osaragi travel to Kyoto on their own mission, only to find themselves ambushed by an unexpected attacker. Those separate threads will eventually begin connecting as more of the history between Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion, and Slur comes to light.
It sounds like Season 2 will dig further into the relationships and events that shaped these characters while revealing just how far the current conspiracy reaches.
Daisuke Nakajima is taking over directing duties from Masaki Watanabe at TMS Entertainment. Nakajima previously directed The Fable, so he's already familiar with bringing assassin-heavy action to anime.
Taku Kishimoto returns to oversee series composition, Yo Moriyama is handling the character designs, and Yuki Hayashi is back to compose the score.
Sakamoto Days is based on the manga created by Yuto Suzuki, which runs in Weekly Shōnen Jump and has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. VIZ Media publishes the manga in English.
The first season of the anime aired from January through September 2025, delivering 22 episodes across two cours. Both parts are currently streaming on Netflix, giving anyone who hasn't joined Sakamoto's wonderfully chaotic retirement plenty of time to catch up before Season 2 arrives.
Sakamoto Days Season 2 premieres on Netflix in January 2027.
