SCOTT PILGRIM Creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and Cast Member Chris Evans Speak About the New Anime Series
We found out last week that a new Scott Pilgrim anime series based on Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski’s graphic novel series is officially heading to Netflix with the entire original cast from the 2010 Edgar Wright-directed film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, returning to voice their characters!
The returning stars include Michael Cera as Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Still, Mae Whitman as Roxie, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.
This project has been in the works for quite a while, but it’s finally moving forward, and creator Bryan Lee O’Malley has finally spoken out about it on Twitter, saying:
"I'm working on a Scott Pilgrim anime. [I]t's for [Netflix], written by me and [BenDavid Grabinksi, produced by us and [Edgar Wright] for [Universal]...animation by [Science Saru], directed by [Abel Gongora], music by [Anamanaguchi] & [Joseph Trapanese], and the whole cast of the movie is reprising their roles!!! It might be the best thing I've ever worked on and I'm excited to share it with everyone soon."
O'Malley then confirmed that those leaked reports about Scott Pilgrim's anime back in 2022 were all true, saying:
"[N]ews of the Scott Pilgrim anime leaked in [J]anuary 2022 before we even started working on it, so for my mental health i decided to pretend it wasn't happening until the day we got an official announcement. [T]oday is that day."
Woo hoo! I am stoked for this project. I don’t watch anime, but I love Scott Pilgrim, so this will be a good introduction for me. No release date has been scheduled for the series, but I bet we will hear about it soon. Captain America actor Chris Evans, who played Lucas Lee in the film, also spoke out about the project during his panel at the recent Chicago convention, C2E2, and he said:
"Recently, [director] Edgar [Wright] and [creator] Bryan [Lee O'Malley], they wrote – that email chain is alive too. It never goes cold for too long – they said, ‘We're doing a cartoon. You guys in?’ And everybody was like, ‘Sure, yeah, no prob. Not even a question.’ Like not even a hesitation. Truly everyone jumped in without a thought. So I'm excited to do that."
We are excited too. Are you looking forward to this Scott Pilgrim anime?
