SCREAM 7 Director Reacts to Melissa Barrera Being Fired and Studio Shares a Statement
Yesterday we learned that Scream franchise star Melissa Barrera has been fired by Spyglass Media for comments she made on social media over the Israel-Hamas conflict. The director of Scream 7, Christopher Landon, has shared his reaction to the firing on X, which has since been deleted, but he said:
“This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”
Spyglass Media finally also shared their own statement and how upset they were over the actress’ social media behavior saying:
“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
In case you need a reminder of what Barrera said on social media:
“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp. Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
Whatever story was being developed for Scream 7 is now going to have to be reworked because its franchise star will not be back. I imagine Jenna Ortega is going to lead the charge in the franchise from here on out.
We can also expect to see the return of Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. maybe a few other familiar faces will return as well.
