HAPPY DEATH DAY Director Christopher Landon Officially Set to Direct SCREAM VII
Earlier today it was reported that Scream revival directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence would not be directing Scream VII and that Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon was in talks to replace them.
Well, it’s official! Landon is confirmed to be helming the next film in the Scream franchise, and I think he’s a good choice! I’ve enjoyed the films that he’s made and he seems like he’ll be a good fit for the horror franchise that was launched by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson in 1996.
All these years later the franchise is still going strong! There’s no word on who will be writing Scream VII, but the last two films were written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Landon is also a screenwriter, so I’m sure that he’ll at least be a co-writer on the script.
Radio Silence is passing on this next installment because they are going to be busy working on the Universal Monster horror movie they’re developing.
There are no details on that Universal Monster movie, but the movie stars Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, Giancarlo Esposito, and Will Catlett.
It’ll be interesting how the Scream franchise will continue after the last one. I imagine that Landon and the creative team will once again try to do something different and unique with it. I would just love to see the return of Stu, though! I know it’s a long shot, but it would be cool to see him worked back into the franchise in some way.
What would you like to see from the future of the Scream franchise?
