SCREAM 7 Producers Looking to Bring Back Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey
The Scream franchise has been on a crazy rollercoaster ride this week as the franchise has lost its two big franchise stars. Melissa Barrera was fired by Spyglass over comments she made on social media over the Israel-Hamas conflict and Jenna Ortega also ended up bowing out due to “scheduling conflicts” with Wednesday Season 2.
As you might imagine, the studio is scrambling to figure out what to do with the franchise now because wherever the story arc was going to be with these characters is going to be thrown out the window and the creative team is going to have to start from scratch.
According to Variety, Ortega was actually “never in the mix for the new film.” Ortega and Barrera initially signed on for only two Scream movies and fulfilled those obligations. So if they did come back, they would have needed to make new deals.
The report also say that the studio wants Neve Campbell back as Sydney Prescott and Patrick Dempsey to reprise his role as Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. These actors are on their wish list along with Courteney Cox, but none of these actors have been approached yet.
Dempsey recently starred in Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving horror movie and he was also named 2023 sexiest man alive. He’s a hot Hollywood commodity right now, so of course the producers want to bring him back to the franchise.
The writers of the two previous films, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, will get to work on a fresh new draft to present to the producers and director Christopher Landon. Who knows if he’ll even stick around at this point?! I’ve also seen jokes on social media about Ghostface not returning for Scream 7 either, which was pretty funny.
The studio still hopes to have Scream 7 ready to hit theaters in 2025.
