SCREAM Franchise Writer Kevin Williamson on Neve Campbell's SCREAM VI Exclusion: "Pay Her the Money"
Scream franchise creator and writer Kevin Williamson recently opened up about Neve Campbell’s exclusion from Scream VI after Paramount Pictures’ offered her a deal that undervalued her and her huge contribution to the horror franchise. Before Scream VI started production, she said:
“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
In a recent interview at the Happy Horror Time podcast, Williamson shared his support for Campbell and her decision not to come back and play Sidney Prescott in Scream VI. He said that the studio should give Campbell what she’s worth for what she brings to the franchise, and I 100% agree! He said:
“I know her well. I love and adore her, and that’s what she did, and it’s great for her. I love everyone involved with Scream, and all I can say is pay her the money. Yes, you heard it, everyone. That’s what I would do. I would give her that.”
Paramount Pictures is in the process of developing Scream VII and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon has found himself at the helm of that film. I hope that they are able to work out of deal to bring Campbell back to the franchise. It’d be a shame if the studio continues to squander that opportunity. Scream just isn’t Scream without Campbell.
