See How The Nightmarish Dracula Is Brought to Life in Featurette for THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER
Universal Pictures has released another featurette for the upcoming horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeter. This video offers a behind the scenes look at how they brought this nightmarish man-bat version of Dracula to life. This version of the creature is seriously horrifying, and it’s all done practically, which is awesome!
Director André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) has said that when he set out to make this movie, he wanted to bring audiences the scariest depiction of Dracula ever, and I think he might succeed in that.
The new promo video features interviews with the director along with actor Javier Botet, who portrays Dracula in the film. This guy had to go through hours and hours of make-up. It looks like such a grueling process, but the result is pretty damn cool. I’m excited about this movie!
The film’s story focuses on one chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic horror novel, it’s a unique story that follows the voyage of Dracula as he terrorizes on the high seas. It’s “based on a single chapter, The Captain’s Log, from Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel Dracula. The chapter tells the story of the Russian schooner, Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – twenty four unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London. The film will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence onboard the ship. When it finally arrived near Whitby Harbour, it was a derelict. There was no trace of the crew.”
The movie stars Corey Hawkins (Kong: Skull Island, The Walking Dead), Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian, Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, and Nikolai Nikolaeff, with Javier Botet as Dracula.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter hits theaters on August 11th, 2023.
