Seth Rogen Has Talked To Grant Morrison About Adapting His We3 Comic

Seth Rogen and his producing partner Evan Goldberg have had a lot of success adapting comics into series such as The Boys, Invincible, and Preacher. They seem to enjoy playing around with these types of wild and crazy comic books and they are looking for the next comic project they’d like to take on.

During a recent interview with Polygon, Rogen revealed that he's been reading some Grant Morrison comics and there’s one of his comics that he’s been considering adapting and he’s even talked to Morrison about making it. That comic is We3. Rogen started by saying:

"That's a good question. What have I been reading? I read old comics, from time to time. There's these Green Lantern comics I've been reading, I love all those Grant Morrison Superman ones, I was rereading those because I heard that that's what the James Gunn Superman movie was gonna be inspired by. I read them when they first came out, but I feel like I was distracted, so I went back."

He then went on to talk about wanting to make We3 and why it hasn’t happened yet, saying:

"Yeah, those Grant Morrison ones are really appealing. We3 is something I'm a big fan of. It seems maybe just too sad honestly; it just bummed me out. We've kind of been down that road — and we know Grant a little bit, we've talked to him. That's what's nice, is we've done well with things that were traditionally considered unmakeable, essentially, for a long time. But also we don't want to ruin things we love. So we'll have very honest conversations with Grant and just talk about it and where his head's at, and where our heads are at. Things like We3, we've talked to him about several times over the years. And we're kind of always like, Yeah, I just don't think this is the thing right now. There's things like that — we really talk to the creators to make sure that we all think it's a good idea, at that moment, in that way."

We3 tells the poignant story of three house pets - a dog named Bandit, a cat named Tinker, and a rabbit named Pirate - who have been converted into cybernetic military weapons by a secretive government agency. The trio is collectively known as "We3", each possessing heightened intelligence and outfitted with advanced weaponry. The plot begins when the agency decides to decommission and eliminate We3, sparking their desperate journey to find safety and freedom.

The story delivers “the emotional journey of WE3 - three house pets weaponized for lethal combat by the government - as they search for "home" and ward off the shadowy agency that created them.”

The synopsis continues: “With nervous systems amplified to match their terrifying mechanical exoskeletons, the members of Animal Weapon 3 (WE3) have the firepower of a battalion between them. But they are just the program's prototypes, and now that their testing is complete, they're slated to be permanently ‘decommissioned,’ causing them to seize their one chance to make a desperate run for freedom. Relentlessly pursued by their makers, the WE3 team must navigate a frightening and confusing world where their instincts and heightened abilities make them as much a threat as those hunting them - but a world, nonetheless, in which somewhere there is something called ‘home.’”
