Shane Black's THE PREDATOR Has Gone Through Extensive Reshoots That Drastically Changed The Third Act
Writer and director Shane Black has been hard at work shooting The Predator. Apparently, the film has gone through some extensive reshoots recently and thanks to co-star Keegan-Michael Key we know just how important those reshoots have been. While talking to CinemaBlend, he reveals that Black reshot nearly the entire third act of the movie!
“We just finished [reshoots] last week, and just about three-quarters of the third act was rewritten. And Shane Black is… he’s just a consummate professional, and a consummate writer. He’s a wordsmith! It was a really, really exhilarating experience, and I think that he’s still one of our most vibrant writers of cinema.”
I know a lot of people see reshoots as a bad sign, but in most cases, they help make the film better. Remember, Rogue One went through a shit-ton of reshoots but it ended up being a great Star Wars film. I just hope that Black ends up giving fans another great Predator film!
This upcoming movie is confirmed to stay in continuity with the first two movies, so this is not a full-on reboot of the series. This film is just set years after those events. The director has also previously said that there is a reference in the script as to why the film has a singular title.
Thomas Jane previously offered some details on the film's story. He says that it follows a group of crazy shellshocked war veterans who end up hearing that a Predator ship has landed, and they set out on a mission to take them down. You can read the full details of the story here. Then Edward James Olmos explained that the movie would also be filled with humor. Jake Busey also previously said:
“This one definitely falls in line with the original franchise in that it does focus on the technology that the Predators have. It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing. It’s definitely in line with the original franchise.”
The movie also stars Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), and Sterling K. Brown (The People vs. O.J. Simpson, This is Us).
Black co-wrote the script with his Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker, and it will be released in theaters on September 14, 2018.
