SHAZAM! Director David F. Sandberg Set to Direct UNTIL DAWN Horror Film Adaptation
David F. Sandberg, the director behind Annabelle: Creation, Shazam! and Lights Out, is set to direct the film adaptation of the PlayStation horror video game Until Dawn, which is being produced by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions.
The script for the film was written by Blair Butler (The Invitation), and a recent draft was written by Gary Dauberman (It: Chapter Two and The Nun). The movie is said to be an “R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre.”
The story is set one year after the death and disappearance of twin sisters Hannah and Beth, eight friends return to the cabin in the mountains belonging to the parents of their friend Josh, brother of the missing sisters. Shortly after arriving, the friends realize that they may not be the only people on this mountain.” What follows is a fun and creepy mystery story.
The game that the film will be based on is actually a great horror story! I played it through a few times with my teen girls. The game has replayability as players can make different decisions as you play taking the story in different directions and there are multiple different outcomes. The game also had a great cast which included Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere in motion-capture versions.
Asad Qizilbash head of PlayStation Productions and head of product for PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment, said in a statement: “As our partnership with Sony Pictures continues to grow, we’re thrilled to be working on our first movie with Screen Gems. Until Dawn is a fan favorite PlayStation game that we can’t wait to bring to the big screen.”
The film has a great team of talent attached to it, and I’m happy to see that Sandberg is returning to the horror genre for his next film. I think he’ll do a great job with this project.
