Sigourney Weaver Praises ALIEN: EARTH Saying It's "So Much Bigger Than an Alien Project"

The upcoming FX series Alien: Earth has officially earned the approval of the franchise’s most iconic figure, Sigourney Weaver, who says the show takes the Alien universe in bold and fascinating new directions.

While the actress admits she’s a little too spooked to watch it solo, she couldn’t help but praise what creator Noah Hawley has crafted. When talking to Collider, she said:

“What I admire about it is it's not Alien-centric. It is about what world we will be living in in 100 years.

“I think the scope of it is so much bigger than an Alien project. Fascinating. Much more about our world, what's going to be happening to it, what's going to be important, the role of greed.

“It's just exploded some of the themes that have always been part of the Alien series, and I think it's beautifully cast and beautifully done. I can't believe it's television, frankly.”

Set two years before the events of Ridley Scott’s original Alien, the new series centers on Wendy, a synthetic played by Sydney Chandler, who volunteers to recover a mysterious cargo from an intergalactic vessel that crash-lands on Earth.

Hawley, who previously adapted Fargo into a critically acclaimed series, is once again expanding a classic film into a new television experience.

Weaver admitted that watching Alien: Earth has been a unique experience for her, especially as the actress who helped define Ellen Ripley, one of sci-fi’s most legendary heroines.

“I'm watching it like a real person. I have to make a date with my husband because I don't want to see it by myself in case one of those things comes out of the screen. So we have to set it up. So I'm behind seeing it, but the ones I've seen are fascinating.”

Weaver first brought Ellen Ripley to life in Scott’s 1979 classic Alien and reprised the role in Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection. It’s cool to see her supporting Alien: Earth.
