Simu Liu Says AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Is “A Love Letter to the Entire Genre of Superhero Movies”
Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be the massive MCU event that fans are excited to see. After years without a full Avengers lineup, Marvel Studios is finally reassembling its heroes for what should be a wild, emotional, thrilling, and action-packed story.
One of the returning heroes, Simu Liu, who made his debut as Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, recently opened up about the film in an interview with ScreenRant. When asked to describe the movie in three words, Liu kept it simple saying:
"Yeah, three: dream come true. I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them."
The actor went on to express how meaningful the project is to him, calling Avengers: Doomsday “a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies.”
"It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that."
For Liu, the story isn’t just about assembling superheroes, it’s about celebrating what they represent to fans everywhere.
"It’s for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre."
While Thunderbolts may have introduced a new generation of heroes, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring them all together on an epic scale. The film features an enormous cast, with more to eventually be announced.
With the Russo Bros. returning to direct and Stephen McFeely co-writing alongside Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron, expectations are high.
The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is rumored to drop next month, and fans are eager for a first look at the villainous Doctor Doom and his connection to the mysterious Ten Rings.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
