Simu Liu Says He’d Crawl Through Broken Glass to Make SHANG-CHI 2 Happen

Marvel fans have been waiting a long time for news on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel, and if anyone is feeling that wait, it's Simu Liu.

While excitement surrounding his return in Avengers: Doomsday has reignited hopes that Marvel Studios might finally reveal Shang-Chi 2, San Diego Comic-Con came and went without the announcement fans were hoping for.

That disappointment came up during an interview with ScreenRant Plus following the Avengers: Doomsday panel at SDCC. When Liu was told that one of the biggest predictions heading into Comic-Con was a long-awaited Shang-Chi 2 announcement, he could only laugh it off, shaking his head before saying: “Man, if I had a nickel…”

Even though there's still nothing official to announce, Liu made it clear that he hasn't lost any passion for the character. In fact, he sounded incredibly grateful that fans have continued championing Shang-Chi all these years after the first film hit theaters.

He said: “Look, I’m going to take the high road here and say that it’s really incredible how much the fans continue to show up for this character and continue to express their enthusiasm. I hope they continue to do so, because I think it is making a difference.”

That's encouraging to hear because it's been five years since audiences were introduced to Shang-Chi, and the demand for another solo adventure hasn't gone away.

Liu explained that people still regularly stop him to talk about how much they loved the movie, something he clearly doesn't take for granted.

More importantly, he made it crystal clear that he'd jump back into the role without hesitation, saying: “I will be there. I will crawl through broken glass to do it if I have to.”

While Liu is eager to suit up again, he also acknowledged that getting Shang-Chi 2 made isn't something he can personally make happen. He explained that the sequel's development is, "unfortunately," outside of his control.

For now, fans can at least look forward to seeing Shang-Chi return in Avengers: Doomsday. Surprisingly, that'll only be Liu's second live-action appearance as the character since his 2021 debut.

Outside of that, he's only voiced alternate versions of Shang-Chi in Marvel's animated series What If…? and Marvel Zombies.

Marvel Studios confirmed work on a sequel back in 2021, but despite years of anticipation, Shang-Chi 2 still doesn't have a release date.

Hopefully, Avengers: Doomsday reminds everyone why Shang-Chi became such an instant fan favorite in the first place. If the audience response is anything like it was after his first outing, maybe that'll help push the sequel higher on Marvel's priority list.
