SNOW WHITE Star Rachel Zegler Talks About Acting Against CGI Dwarf Characters Saying "It Was Really Intense"

A lot of people are expecting Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White to be a complete disaster. The film’s star has said some things about it in the past that have got Disney fans riled up. Then there’s the ridiculous aspect of the film where the seven dwarves are CGI, and they look terrible.

During a recent “Actors on Actors” discussion, Zegler opened up about what director Marc Webb and the creative team are hoping to accomplish with the film, saying:

“This is an iconic thing that people really care about. I don’t want to mess this up for anybody, including myself. The writers and Marc Webb and our entire producing team…it’s a bit different story wise. We were able to do ‘Whistle While You Work,’ which made me really happy and excited. I was really nervous more about the technical element. That first-look image went out… and there’s a lot of CGI in the film.”

That first image that was released didn’t really get much of a positive response. One thing that’s been confirmed is they’ve taken this “iconic thing” and turned the story into something completely different. Zegler previously said that Snow White won’t be “saved by a prince,” who she calls a “stalker.” David Hand, whose father co-directed Walt Disney’s original 1937 movie, finds the remake “insulting” and said that his father and Walt Disney would be “turning in their graves.”

The actress went on to talk about the CGI elements of the film and working with Dwarf characters that aren’t there:

“Most of that day was spent singing to nothing. I’m sure you also know how that can be. There was a lot of puppetry and CGI in post. It was really intense. There’s a lot of bloopers of me tossing a broom and letting it fall to the ground because that’s apparently how you toss things off to CGI characters. But it’s so much fun!”

Disney spent a lot of money making this movie and it’s reported that the studio would need to bring in at least $340 million to break even.

The story follows a princess who is rescued by seven dwarf miners, Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy, who make Snow White part of their household after she’s exiled into a dangerous forest by her wicked stepmother, played by Gal Gadot.

Snow White will be released in theaters on March 21, 2025.
