SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Director Jeff Fowler Confirms They Are Changing The Character Design
After the first trailer for the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog film dropped, fans of the game made it very clear that they were not happy with the character design for Sonic.
The trailer had such a huge backlash that director Jeff Fowler, Paramount Pictures, and Sega will be changing the character design to one that is closer to the character design from the video game franchise. Fowler confirmed that this is happening on Twitter:
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be... #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️

Well, that’s a step in the right direction and a move from the studio that I didn’t see coming. Hopefully, when they change the character design they will also update the CG animation, because what they have looks like the kind of CGI we’d see in the early 2000s.
While it’s great that they will be changing up the character design, one thing they won’t be able to change is the story and the script. So, for their sake I hope those actually end up being decent. I’d love to see this Sonic The Hedgehog movie end up being a film that the fans will love. Only time will tell, but they aren’t off to a good start.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
The film also stars James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. He might actually end up being the best part of the film.
Sonic The Hedgehog hits theaters on November 8th.
