Sony Officially Has No Plans to Release SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE in 2025
There has been a huge question mark on the release date of the threequel Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse for quite a while now.
It was originally set to come out in March of 2024, but the studio pulled that release date back in 2023, and didn’t give fans a rescheduled date or even time frame to look forward to. Many assumed that we would see the trilogy wrap up in 2025, but now even that idea has been shut down.
During a recent movie roundup over at Deadline, the outlet talked about November and December’s hits and flops in the theaters, and that included the generally panned Sony pic, Kraven the Hunter.
They explained that Sony is blaming the strikes and the start and stop of production for the film’s production cost, which is their reason why it’s not doing well. It has nothing to do with the story, the characters, the direction, or the fact that Sony hasn’t made a decent superhero movie in… ever? But we already know that. The report did drop a bit of bad news though, that had only been speculated.
It said of Sony, “They’re taking a lot of tender loving care with the next Spider-Verse animated movie, with no plans for that threequel to hit the 2025 release calendar.”
That’s a bummer. But the first two movies were so well done, I’m sure the creators are taking their time to finish the trilogy out right. It’s noble that despite fan disappointment, they aren’t succumbing to studio pressure to pump out a crappy movie.
I hope all the waiting pays off, and we get a great end to the animated Spider-Verse movies. After all, we have to wait for this movie to come out before we get to see our live-action Miles Morales.
