Sony's 21 JUMP STREET Female Spinoff Film Moves Forward With Writer and Director

Sony has been planning a female spinoff film for 21 Jump Street since 2015, and the studio is moving forward with their plans to get it into production. They've hired Rodney Rothman to write and direct the film. Rothman has some experience with the franchise as he wrote the script for 22 Jump Street as well as the Men in Black and 21 Jump Street crossover film MIB 23, which is also still in development.

According to Variety, the spinoff film revolves around two female cops who go undercover as students in some sort of school setting. The studio previously had two sets of writers writing two different scripts for the movie, but apparently they didn't like how they turned out if they have Rothman working on the project now.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum were both hilarious in the first two films. They really did a great job with this franchise. They are still attached to return to MIB 23, but there's no information on if they will have a part in this female spinoff film.

Rothman also most recently wrote Andy Samberg's comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which turned out so much more hilarious than I thought it would be.
