Sony's KRAVEN THE HUNTER Marvel Movie Moves Forward with TRIPLE FRONTIER Director J.C. Chandor
It looks like Sony Pictures is finally moving forward with the Kraven The Hunter Marvel movie! The studio is currently in talks with director J.C. Chandor to helm the film. Chandor is the director of films such as Triple Frontier, A Most Violent Year, All Is Lost, and Margin Call.
Chandor has made some solid films in his career — they’re actually all well-made films, but Kraven The Hunter will be his first big tentpole movie. I think he could deliver something pretty cool, something that the fans will appreciate. But we’ll have to wait and see.
It would make sense to see Kraven get his own movie. Not only is it a character that fans have been wanting to see in a film, but there have also been reports that the character could make his big-screen debut in the upcoming third solo Spider-Man movie. After all, he is one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies.
The Spider-Man sequel could take story points from Kraven's Last Hunt comic, which was written by J. M. DeMatteis, first published in 1997. It’s one of the best Spider-Man stories that has been created. It tells the story of Spider-Man's final battle with Kraven The Hunter. Here’s the description of that comic.
Kraven the Hunter has stalked and killed every animal known to man. But there is one beast that has eluded him. One quarry that has mocked him at every turn: the wall-crawling web-slinger known as Spider-Man. And to prove that he is the hero's master, he will pull on his costume and become him... after he shoots and buries him six feet under!
In a previously released casting description, the character is described as being of Russian origin, with "superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, and reflexes." It goes on to say that this "maniacal big-game hunter seeks to defeat Spider-Man to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world." The studio is looking for an actor in the 35-50 age range to play the character, who is also described as a "Bourne-like bounty hunter.”
The script for the film was written by Richard Wenk, who penned The Equalizer films for Sony. Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are set to produce. I’m excited to see that this movie is actually moving forward. Hopefully, Sony and Chandor do something great with it. I’m curious to see what kind of standalone story they end up telling with Kraven. What kind of story would you like to see told?
