Sophie Turner Says GAME OF THRONES Still Triggers “Crazy Anxiety,” Even the Theme Song
For eight seasons, Sophie Turner grew up in front of the world as Sansa Stark, becoming one of the emotional anchors of Game of Thrones. But even years after the HBO epic wrapped, Turner admits she can’t bring herself to revisit it. Not the episodes. Not the spinoffs. Not even the opening theme.
While speaking about the franchise and its expanding future in Westeros, Turner was asked if she planned to watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Her response was honest and surprisingly raw.
“If I'm totally honest, anything Game of Thrones, I don't think I can... I can't even hear the theme tune. It gives me like... crazy anxiety. I don't know why. I had the best time on that show, but I can't watch anything related to it.”
Despite that reaction, Turner made it clear there’s no bitterness toward the franchise or the people still working in that world. Quite the opposite. She’s cheering from the sidelines, even if she won’t be tuning in.
“But I'm really excited for all the actors on it, and I think it will probably be incredible because it is that universe. So, good luck to everyone involved! I won't be watching it, but I'll be rooting for you.”
Interestingly, Turner hasn’t completely closed the door on a possible return to Westeros herself. With multiple sequel projects still in development, she acknowledged that the idea has crossed her mind, though it wouldn’t be an easy decision.
“Show me the money [laughs]. I don't know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it. But I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending. I feel like I got a good one, and so I don't know if I could revisit it.”
For now, Turner’s focus is firmly on her next major chapter. She’s stepping into another iconic role as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider series for Prime Video.
A first look at Turner in full costume recently surfaced, and it leans heavily into the classic, early-era version of the legendary adventurer.
While plot details remain under wraps, the series also stars Sigourney Weaver ias original character Evelyn Wallis, alongside a wave of newly announced talent. That includes Bill Paterson as Winston the butler, Martin Bobb-Semple as tech expert Zip, and Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle, Atlas de Mornay.
So while Westeros may still bring on the anxiety, Turner is clearly charging ahead into new territory, swapping castles and crowns for tombs, traps, and ancient secrets. Even if she never watches Game of Thrones again, its impact on her life and career is still very much part of the story.
