SOUTH PARK and BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD Creators Reveal They Almost Did a Crossover
What happens when two of the most iconic animated troublemakers collide? According to their creators, it almost happened. During a San Diego Comic-Con panel, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Mike Judge revealed that a South Park and Beavis & Butt-Head crossover was once seriously on the table.
The idea came up in the early days of South Park. The concept saw Beavis and Butt-Head get hired to babysit Eric Cartman. It’s easy to imagine Cartman’s manipulative chaos crashing into the duo’s clueless idiocy.
Unfortunately, the crossover never made it past the planning stage. But with both franchises thriving today, is the door still open to make it happen?
Beavis & Butt-Head first aired on MTV in 1993, delivering crude humor and scathing commentary on youth culture. It ran for seven seasons, spawned the hit 1996 film Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, and after a brief 2011 revival, returned again in 2022 with Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe and a new series on Paramount+.
That reboot has already delivered two seasons, with a third, now officially titled Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, set to premiere September 3, 2025, on Comedy Central.
The updated format now includes hilarious commentary on viral internet videos, making the characters relevant for a new generation.
Meanwhile, South Park has been a constant cultural force since 1997, running for 26 seasons and producing over 325 episodes. The show has never shied away from controversy, and its 27th season just debuted with an episode taking aim at Donald Trump’s second presidency.
That episode sparked major online debates and came shortly after Parker and Stone signed a $1.5 billion deal with Paramount Global. The five-year deal guarantees 50 new episodes, ten per year, and secures Paramount+ as the exclusive streaming home for the entire South Park library.
While the original crossover never became a reality, both franchises are experiencing massive success and continuing to evolve. Judge even hinted at being open to a live-action Beavis and Butt-Head adaptation during the SDCC panel. With these worlds expanding and their creators still working together at events, the idea of a crossover doesn’t feel impossible.
