SPACEBALLS Sequel Confirmed with Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, and Director Josh Greenbaum
Mel Brooks has been teasing a Spaceballs sequel for years and it looks like the project is officially moving forward at Amazon MGM Studios!
Josh Gad, who previously teased the project, is attached to write, produce, and star in the film. Gad worked on the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez (Detective Pikachu).
Gad previously talked about the script saying that it’s “the funniest and best thing [he’s] ever worked on.” As a huge fan of the original film, I can’t wait to see what this creative team cooked up or a sequel.
It’s also reported that the movie will be directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar). Kevin Salter will serve as executive producer on the project.
There are no details in the story, but one thing that I would love to see is Rick Moranis come back to reprise his role as Dark Helmet. That has to happen! It’s the only way this sequel could truly work! But, we’ll have to wait and see.
The original 1987 sci-fi Star Wars comedy spoof follows the adventures of Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his sidekick Barf (John Candy), a half-man, half-dog creature, as they attempt to rescue Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil clutches of Dark Helmet (Moranis) and President Skroob (Brooks).
In their quest, they receive guidance from the wise and powerful Yogurt, who introduces them to "The Schwartz," a mystical power.
This movie always makes me laugh! All I ask is that this sequel makes me laugh. And that they get Rick Moranis back!
What do you hope to see from Spaceballs 2?
