SPAWN Creator Todd McFarlane Has 90 Minutes of an Animated Show Ready to Go
A few months ago, Todd McFarlane revealed that two new animated Spawn shows were in early development. He explained at the time:
“We’re talking right now. I just had a couple meetings this weekend about a couple different animation looks, both something that we can get kids in at a younger age and then get them into the sort of crack cocaine version of Spawn. And then do the adult one. So we’re talking about that. I think both of those come after the movie.”
Well, it looks like a considerable amount of work has been done on one of these shows. During a recent interview with CB, McFarlane teased that he's got "about ninety minutes of a show ready, teed up.” But, there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done, like the actual cel animation. McFarlane said:
"Actually years ago we started a second go-round at it, and I still have all of that work. And it includes all the voice recordings and everything. So I've got about ninety minutes of a show ready, teed up, ready to go; the only thing I need to do is the cell animation, everything else has been designed. Obviously we need to put some music and sound effects or something - but yeah, I've been sitting on a 90-minute version of it for a long time. I've just been waiting to launch the movie to say 'Hey, let's tumble this all out at the appropriate time.' But yeah, we'll get animation done."
I remember when he was working on that other animated film project. I didn’t know that one of these shows that are being developed would be this past project that McFarlane was developing. That’s pretty cool! Hopefully, the people that worked on that project all those years ago get credit for all of the development that was done for it.
McFarlane is currently focused on getting his live-action Spawn movie off the ground. That movie is set up at Blumhouse, and Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner are set to star.
Hopefully, all these projects end up seeing the light of day one day!
