SPDIER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Enhanced Trailer Image Reveals Best Look Yet at Sadie Sink's Mystery Character

Of course Marvel fans have been watching and breaking down newly released Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer since it was released yesterday, and now tanks to an enhanced trailer image, we have a better look at Sadie Sink’s mystery character.

She has remained one of the movie’s most closely guarded secrets. Now we can clearly see that Sink is the masked figure wearing the green-and-yellow jacket that fans immediately locked onto.

That costume choice is particularly interesting because it closely resembles the classic comic book look associated with Jean Grey, better known in her early days as Marvel Girl.

While Marvel Studios still hasn’t officially confirmed who Sink is playing, multiple insiders have consistently claimed that she’s portraying Jean Grey, and at this point it would be surprising if that wasn’t the case.

If those reports are accurate, Spider-Man: Brand New Day won’t just be another Spider-Man adventure. It would also serve as the MCU debut of one of Marvel’s most iconic mutants.

What makes the situation even more curious is the way the trailers appear to position Sink’s character as a major threat. If she really is Jean Grey, why does she seem to be at odds with Peter Parker?

There are a few possibilities. One theory is that she’s been captured and experimented on by the Department of Damage Control, leading her to lash out.

Another possibility is that she’s somehow under the agency’s influence. Comic readers know that Jean’s history with the Phoenix Force has often placed her in situations where incredible power and outside influence collide in dangerous ways.

That idea gains some additional credibility thanks to another reveal hidden in the trailer. The latest footage finally confirms who Tramell Tillman is playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the trailer’s subtitles, Tillman is portraying William Metzger.

Comic fans may recognize the name immediately. Metzger was introduced as a prominent anti-mutant activist and leader within the Anti-Mutant Militia. If Marvel is setting the stage for mutants to become a major focus of the MCU’s next saga, Metzger could end up being a key player in that larger story.

His involvement also fuels speculation that the Department of Damage Control may actually be the true villainous force operating behind the scenes. S

ome fans have theorized that the organization could eventually use confiscated Stark Industries technology to develop mutant-hunting Sentinels, creating a much larger threat that extends well beyond this movie.

As for Jean Grey's apparent role in the story, it remains one of the film’s biggest mysteries. Her inclusion still feels unexpected for a Spider-Man film, but it’s clear Marvel is holding back plenty of story details.

The official synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day reads: "In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them."

The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Whether Sink is truly playing Jean Grey or Marvel has somehow pulled off one of the biggest misdirects in superhero movie history, fans are going to keep scrutinizing every frame of this trailer until more answers arrive.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31.
