SPIDER-MAN 4 Producer Says The Story is About Spider-Man "[Giving] Up Being Peter Parker"
Thanks to Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal, we have an update on Spider-Man 4 and some new insight to share with you in regard to the story.
While talking to Deadline, Pascal said: "We're starting shooting the next Spider-Man movie with Destin Daniel Cretton. He's a wonderful director. I love No Mercy, I love Short Term 12, I love Shang-Chi. I think he did a wonderful job."
When it was brought up in the interview that Spider-Man: No Way Home felt like the perfect send-off for Spider-Man, Pascal responded: "Well, we have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker."
"And he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard.” She teased: “That's what the movie is about."
The movie is set between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and it was previously said: "Following the events of Doomsday, Peter Parker is determined to lead a normal life and focus on college, stepping back from his responsibilities as Spider-Man.
“However, peace is short-lived when a deadly new threat emerges, endangering his friends and forcing Peter to reconsider his promise."
"With stakes higher than ever, Peter reluctantly returns to his Spider-Man identity and finds himself teaming up with an unlikely ally to protect those he loves."
There are also the rumors about the creative direction of film, with some claiming it will be a Multiversal adventure featuring Venom and the other Spider-Men, while others say it will be a street-level story adapting Devil's Reign, which would pit Spider-Man and Daredevil against Mayor Wilson Fisk.
Regardless of what the story entails, Peter Parker is going to find himself in a very unique place in his life and he’ll be navigating some new territory.
Holland recently revealed that he and Zendaya read a draft of the script and he expressed his excitement about the direction that the film will take the story.
Holland said: “We have a creative and a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work but the writers are doing a great job. I read it 3 weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me.
“Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of fans respect.”
He also said: "The idea is crazy. It's a little different to anything we've done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it."
Spider-Man 4 is set to be released on July 26, 2026.
