SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE Will Conclude Miles Morales' Story
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse ended with a cliffhanger that left fans wanting more. The movie was so good, and it told such a wild, fun, and intense story! That story is going to continue with Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, and in a recent interview with writers and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, they confirm that this next movie will conclude Mile Morales’ story.
While appearing on Entertainment Tonight, the filmmakers were asked whether they always intended for the franchise to be a trilogy, and Miller responded, saying:
"We always knew there was more to tell and that there's a lot to explore, but it wasn't until we were working on [Across the Spider-Verse] that we realized that this was the middle piece.
"So now, we actually have a proper plan and know what we're doing. At the time, we were just painting ourselves into a corner and trying to find a way out."
Now, while Beyond The Spider-Verse will wrap up for Miles's story, Miller pointed out that Across the Spider-Verse sets up arcs for several characters, hinting that the franchise could continue with a different focus. But, it seems like they are done with the franchise after this third movie. Miller added:
"But yeah, that's it for us. We're so tired."
While this trilogy is going to complete Miles Morales’ story, the franchise is sure to continue. I have no doubt that we’re going to see more animated Spider-Verse movies. There are so many different characters in so many different universes to play with and it will be cool to see which of these characters end up getting their own movies!
Producer Amy Pascal already teased an animated Spider-Woman movie, and she said that will come “sooner than you expect.” So we have that to look forward to!
As Sony Pictures Animation continues to make these movies, I just hope they continue the great storytelling and continue to play with their innovative animation styles!
