SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY May Be Hiding a Major Cameo From One of the MCU's Most Overlooked Heroes
Thanks to an offhand comment from Jon Bernthal, some Marvel fans are convinced that Rosario Dawson could finally be making her long-awaited return as Claire Temple in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
It's an interesting theory, especially considering how Marvel has slowly been reconnecting the old Netflix heroes with the main MCU. Seeing Daredevil, Kingpin, and now The Punisher fully embraced by Marvel Studios would've seemed impossible a few years ago. Now fans are wondering if another familiar face could be waiting in the wings.
The conversation started after Bernthal spoke with Noovie and casually referenced a scene in which Frank Castle is apparently keeping watch over Peter Parker while he's in a hospital. That small detail immediately sent fans into detective mode.
After all, Peter Parker's current situation in the MCU is... complicated. Following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the entire world has forgotten who he is. Without an identity, getting something as simple as health insurance probably isn't going to be easy.
That has led many fans to believe Peter could end up receiving medical treatment from someone who has made a career out of helping masked vigilantes. Her inclusion was also rumored several months ago.
That naturally brings Claire Temple into the conversation. For anyone who followed Marvel's Netflix series, Claire was essentially the connective tissue between all of those street-level heroes. Inspired by the Night Nurse character from Marvel Comics, she repeatedly patched up Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and others whenever they found themselves bruised, battered, or on the verge of death.
In many ways, she served the same purpose for the Netflix corner of Marvel that Nick Fury did for the Avengers, just with a lot more stitches.
The comic book version of Night Nurse is practically built for stories like this. She's one of the few medical professionals willing to secretly treat superheroes and vigilantes while protecting their identities. Whether it's bullet wounds, broken bones, or even supernatural problems, Night Nurse has seen it all.
Peter Parker ending up under Claire Temple's care actually makes a lot of sense. She's one of the few people in Marvel's world who understands exactly why heroes need privacy and knows how to keep their secrets.
Still, it's worth pumping the brakes on this particular theory. Bernthal mentioning a hospital scene doesn't automatically mean Claire Temple is involved. Fans have connected a lot of dots from very little information. Peter could simply be treated by an ordinary doctor.
Maybe Bruce Banner has a few connections that help him out. There's even room to imagine another surprise cameo, including someone like Doctor Strange, depending on where the story takes Peter.
At this point, nothing points directly to Claire beyond fan speculation. That said, seeing Rosario Dawson step back into the role would be a welcome surprise. Claire Temple remains one of the best supporting characters to come out of Marvel's Netflix era, and she'd fit naturally into Spider-Man's street-level world.
Personally, though, her return might make even more sense in a future season of Daredevil: Born Again. With so many former Netflix characters already returning, a larger Defenders reunion feels like the perfect place to bring Claire back.
There's also plenty of story potential waiting for her there, especially considering that her former boyfriend Luke Cage is now married to Jessica Jones. That's a dynamic Marvel hasn't explored on screen yet, and it could make for some genuinely entertaining character drama.
